What is the Brio Method?

Brio is an Italian word meaning zest, vigor, spirit, and vitality. It describes a person who is full of life. More than better posture, less pain, or greater strength, that is ultimately what I want for people.

The Brio Method was born from a simple quest:

How do we provide the most benefit to the most people with the least effortt?

Over the course of more than 50,000 hours of study, teaching, and practice—including approximately 30,000 hours working directly with clients—I have searched relentlessly for that answer. I have studied anatomy, movement, exercise, rehabilitation, nutrition, and human performance with one goal in mind: to understand the body as clearly and honestly as possible.

The conclusion I have reached is surprisingly simple.

Your body is exactly as adapted as your life has required it to be.

Everything you do is teaching your body something.

Every exercise is a lesson.

Every posture is practice.

Every repetitive movement is instruction.

Every hour spent sitting, standing, lifting, walking, driving, sleeping, or working is information your body uses to decide how it should adapt.

Much of this happens outside of conscious thought.

The deeper, operational parts of your nervous system—the brainstem, cerebellum, autonomic nervous system, and countless automatic processes throughout the body—are constantly receiving information and producing responses. They are not asking what body you wish you had. They are preparing you for the life you are actually living.

That means your current posture, strength, flexibility, movement patterns, coordination, and many of the limitations you experience are not random.

They are adaptations, and you can always have new adaptations.

Change is not only possible, but inevitable and currently happening. Your body is not your enemy

One of the greatest misunderstandings in health and fitness is the belief that the body is somehow working against us.

I don't believe that.

I believe your body is remarkably intelligent.

It is continuously attempting to prepare you for whatever it believes you need most.

If you sit for years, it becomes efficient at sitting.

If you avoid certain movements, it becomes efficient at avoiding them.

If you demand strength, balance, mobility, endurance, or precision, it begins preparing itself to perform those tasks more effectively.

Your body is always listening, and relentlessly, emotionlessly supporting.

The question is not whether it will adapt.

The question is:

What are you teaching it? Why has it done this?

Why posture matters

To me, posture is not simply about standing taller or looking more confident.

Posture is one of the clearest expressions of how your body has adapted to your life.

Posture is a lens into your physical history, and possibly your emotional state, your confidence etc.

For many posture doesn’t even in extreme postures, but when there is a structural issue causing pain posture management will improve it.

You have many postures for many things you do, and you can always strive to have pood posture through Posture Management.

Natural standing/walking posture reflects habits, environment, movement history, injuries, occupations, stress, exercise, and countless small decisions repeated over months and years.

The Brio Method

The Brio Method is built around one fundamental belief:

Provide the right stimulus, receive the right adaptation.

That principle applies to nearly everything your body does.

Strength.

Mobility.

Balance.

Coordination.

Breathing.

Walking.

Joint motion.

Connective tissue.

Bone density.

Movement efficiency.

Even many of the automatic systems we rarely think about are constantly responding to the demands we place upon them.

My role is not to fight your body.

My role is to help you understand it.

Because once you understand how your body learns, you gain the ability to intentionally guide its adaptation.

My hope for you

Whether you come to me because of pain, posture, athletic performance, fitness, or simply a desire to move through life with greater confidence, my goal is the same:

To help you reach for thriving life, by understanding the tools to get you there.

I don't believe lasting health comes from chasing symptoms.

I believe it comes from giving your body the correct expectations.

That is the Brio Method.

And I would be honored to help you experience it.
