What is the Brio Method?
The Brio Method was designed to cater to optimal, efficient stimulus choice to get the most out of yourself. Brio is an Italian word, and it means to have zest, vigor, or vivacity, to be spirited, to have abundance in oneself. This is what I want for all people, and all people, particular catastrophic injuries and diseases aside, can have it.
Between schooling, extracurricular courses & certification, and hours worked I have spent well over 50,000 hours drawing my conclusions. Roughly 30,000 hours are in working with clients. I have worked so hard to see with unclouded eyes at the truth of the body, and finding, selecting the best and most efficient, effective ways of producing wellness, Brio, in any person.
Through a desire to learn, and a willingness to try things, and practice I have come to a deep understanding of anatomy and how bodies respond to input. There are a few major concepts that guide my work with people, but the main underlying concept is that your body is as _________ as it is because you have needed it for that. The operational layer of your brain, the parts in your cerebellum and brainstem, the autonomous nervous system, is not a part of you that thinks. It simply takes in information, and produces a response in accordance. Every single exercise, therapy, etc. that you do is a stimulus, and the way your body responds is the response.
Many people are a victim of these processes, unable to appreciate that their body is the perfect reflection of their lifestyle and decisions made every day like where to sit, how to spend your free time, your work positions and repetitive actions. When you can appreciate how to deliver stimulus to the operational brain, you can essentially design your body. You are as strong as you need to be, fast as you need to be, flexible as you have needed. If you want to change something, you need only find a way to participate in a situation or activity where it is required, provided you don’t overstimulate to injury, your body WILL prepare to do whatever you’ve practiced, better.
This might sound so basic to you, and truly it is, however the number of ways that your body is constantly adjusting and adapting outside of your consciousness is nearly incalculable. To name a few off the top of my head, how fast your heart beats, how deeply and often you breath, where blood flows in your body, any hormone response or activity, the processes of digestion, the way you hold your head, the speed of contraction in a given muscle, your gait pattern, the range of motion in any joint, the density of your bones, the strength of your connective tissue, the sensitivity of your feet, your average attention span, your vision quality, the size and nature of your appetite, the force production in a given position, and so much more.
That’s a little overwhelming to think about but the gist is that if you want to work with me on your health & wellness, or just try out some posture management, or fitness training I can probably help you a lot.
